Sun Cellular has introduced their own mobile wireless broadband service.
They call it Sun Broadband Wireless using HSDPA (3.5G). Its supposed to be faster than the normal 3G connection.
When you avail of the Plan you’ll have to pay an initial fee of P2,000. Actually, this fee is maybe for the Huawei E220 modem.
It works on Windows and Linux.
It’s the same as that of Globe Visibility.
You will also need to subscribe to a plan
- Plan 500 = Allowance of 35 Hrs/month
- Plan 1000 = Allowance of 75 Hrs/month
- In excess of the monthly allowance, you’ll pay P0.30/minute.
Hmm.. that’s a nice offer.. P0.30 per minute. And its a per minute charging.
Now, the ultimate question.. “Is it reliable?” I mean, its SUN CELLULAR. Hmmm.. maybe… You see 3G and HSDPA travels through a different frequency. Much lower than that of Voice. So maybe.. just maybe they’ll be able to provide a good service.
But still one concern on connectivity is the coverage. As discussed in PhilMUG forums.. If it uses only HSDPA, then there’s only quite a number of areas with that. The modem can be used for 2G, EDGE, 3G, up to 3.5G. So hopefully users can still be able to use other modes when there’s no 3.6G present.
If you wan’t to know more about the modem, check here.

GOOD JOB SUN CELLULAR! MORE POWER!!
download speed is slow even during off peak hours. losing connection most of the time. my location is in taguig.how i wish na magimprove ang sun…don’t wanna waste 1.6K for nothin’
the fastest connection i’ve experienced with sun a few days ago was 50 kbps at maximum. i reside in mandaluyong. but in internet browsing it’s average, in dowloading lang mabagal.. zzz
maganda po ba connection sa binan laguna area?? date kase metrowide lang ang sun ngaun nationwide na DAW.. tnx
isa lang masasabi ko mukhang pera ang sun!
what sun has that smart and globe offer is their test modems. if you want to check ng service sa area mo, simply present an id and make a cash deposit of 1500 at any sun shop to get a test modem. bili lang ng broadband wireless sim na prepaid at 50 pesos. test it in your area for 5 days. pag ok or hindi, balik lang sa sun shop and they will refund the 1500 to you. that is what i did. i used to have smartbro at tattoo. but when i tested sun, better than the other two. i get steady blue sa modem. just be aware tho na meron fair usage policy.
i need more comments.. bibili na ako ng sun wireless broadband .. later?… hmmm to buy or not?
