I’ll go straight to the point…
The sound of the Nokia N78 is like an OLD RADIO.
Its the worst sounding Nseries device that I’ve used. Maybe they’ve poured all their efforts on its looks and User interface ? (but Symbian is not nokia).
Speaking of looks, whoever thought of putting two non stereo speakers (if its stereo, i can’t hear it) on two sides of the phone with the one on top and the other on the bottom must be joking.
I saw the video of the interview of the designers of the Nokia N78 (and N96) on Youtube. But i don’t think they mentioned anything about the speakers.
Ok, so its not a music phone…
But wait.. there’s still hope!
I think they realized that the Nokia N78 has bad speakers so they pitched in a great replacement… The Nokia MD-4 Speakers… And i tell you.. this baby brings back the smile to my face!
This nice and portable speakers comes along when you buy a Nokia N78. But surely you can but it separately. I’ll have more in the MD-4 speakers in a separate post.
Meanwhile, using the headphones that comes with N78 will also make you feel nice about the sound of the phone. Not that loud even if the volume is high. For me its just right to my ears.

wahahaha! ganun pla ang n78… shocking huh!?! although its user interface is great, it’s sound nman is like an OLD RADIO!!! TC =p
i’ve always thought that the sounds of nokia phones either thru loud speaker or headsets is not that great
first of all you do not know how to speak and second of all its sound is not as bad as you told it so please think before speak and i have been using this for 2 months and i know that its sound quality is better then nokias 5310 and 5610.
=) I find it funny to even talk about the sound quality of any mobile phone thru it’s speakers. It’s given that they will sound like crap. The drivers are too small to deliver decent sound.
Use any decent in-ear headphones like a creative ep-630 or a sennheiser cx-300 in listening to the N78 to experience the quality of its DAP. Its sound quality is better than the n82.
Jay Astonia,
You’ll be surprised to know that there are some mobile phones that doesn’t sound like an ordinary mobile phone. Like the Nokia 6233. The best mobile phone speakers i’ve heard until today.
my sister’s got one. sounds like an old radio to me. but I agree it’s definitely better than other phones i’ve heard. But that doesn’t mean it sounds good.
i agree with the comment of summair i think it is better if you get the n78
