Photos: N78 vs N82
There are many sites that have already compared the results of their tests with regards to the photo quality of both the N82 and N78. But it doesn’t to add another review right?
I hope by now you already know that the N82 is the phone to beat amongst all nokia phones when it comes to taking pictures. And it’s also the choice of many reviews who have had the N82 face its competitors from different brands.
The N82 has a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. While the N78 has a 3.2 megapixel cam with Carl Zeiss Tessar lens too.
So lets take a look…

Can you guess which one was taken using a 3.2 and 5 megapixel cam phone?
The first pick was taken using the N78, while the second one with the N82. The clouds in the first pic (n78) can’t be seen on the second pic (n82) though they were just taken seconds apart. The first pic is darker which makes the color more rich (is that right? Photo experts help me out here). However, The first doesn’t seem to clearly show the Tree at the right side of the picture unlike in the second pic where you’ll notice it right away.
But you can adjust the setting on the N82 to get a better picture – ISO, contrast, white balance, exposure compensation,
In a normal environment, no settings adjustments, and with the naked eye, the N78 may surprise many.
The N82 will win if you zoom-in on the picture for a more detailed look.
Next…
First pic – N82, second pic – N78 (Normal mode)
The N78 has an automatic macro mode.. Surprise surprise again… That’s if you hold the capture button longer.. it will adjust.. and make use of the macro mode feature. Press it quicky and it will just take pics without adjusting.
Near.. far… next.. lights…
Both of the above pics were taken using the N82. First with flash and the second without. Meanwhile, the photo below was taken using the N78.
Notice the effect on the light. Or should i say how the light is reflected. Both phones have Tessar lens.
Can a photo expert explain this please..
Ok you probably know by now that most phones, even those with only 2 mega pixel cameras like the Nokia 6233 gives out nice pictures when given proper lighting. So the real battle is using the phone in not so good or well lighted environments. Lets take a look.
- With some light – Left-N78; Right-N82

Models are Winston and Andrew. The N78 Picture is noisy.. =< Even with the flash on. But, you can adjust the settings to have a better result. Which.. I should have done to show you the effect.
My rating for the N78 is 7/10. Great choice for people who wants a slimmer phone with nice photo results.
One more great thing about the N78 is that it takes pictures fast and shows it to you faster than any Nseries device that i’ve used. Why.. ummm maybe because of the interface and because its only a 3.2 megapixel phone.
Check out one of my futire posts when i compare the Nokia N78 with another 3.2 megapixel phone.

The N82 has all the stuff that you need from a phone and more. Plus all the stuff on your usual Nseries device.
What do you like in a mobile phone? I bought the N82 because of its 5 megapixel camera. then the plus factor is the wi-fi.
So you see you should know what you want and what you don’t want in a phone so that when you already have the phone that you want, you’ll be happy with it.

The N82 is much better than N78 camera. In the lush scenery landscape photo the N72 has too much contrast that’s why you can’t see the tree meanwhile the N82 shows it clearly. The clouds though are washed out but its not the N82’s fault because its doesn’t have a real camera lens that can be fitted with a filter. Both photos are sharp and crisp though.
If you like outside photos in any condition its recommended to use a real camera. For everyday shots both phones are adequate but the N82 is better.
Your last photo set is terrible, is it the N78’s fault I notice that its not even at the same distance.
Is it possible to adjust the N82 to take 3.2 mpx only?

June Domingo,
Yes, Open/turn on the main camera. Go to options > settings> then adjust the image quality setting.

Can you post some photos taken by the secondary cam of the N78? Thank you.
