My take on the mobile world…

Home » Mobile Brands » 2D barcodes: Your MRT ticket on your mobile phone

When entering the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) you have several options:

1. Using the original ticket that you can buy from the cashier or ticket vending machine (either one time ride or stored value ticket).

2. use G-Pass (This one is from Globe).

3. Use Metropass (.this one is from smart)

Now you have another option… Mobile Pass… well that’s what i call it.. just to follow the pass thingie.

But its really called MRT TxtRide. (see, the name i gave is much better). And the ticket is called m-ticket.

The company that is bringing this to us is Omi mobile solutions

Mobile ticketing is a new form of m-Commerce enabling customers to purchase, order, receive, and check tickets anytime, anywhere. It may be used in events such as concerts, exhibits, cinemas, museums or transportation like trains, buses, airlines and cruises, among others.

Using ticketing in this way is an attractive proposition for everyone from saving cost in the production, distribution and validation of traditional ticketing to removing the need for queuing or collecting from a machine. Lost tickets become a thing of the past as replacements can be reissued in seconds.

The MRT TxtRide process uses 2D barcode technology which requires a barcode reader and something to read – the barcode which can be placed on your mobile phone.

For more info on 2D barcodes, Brader Blogie wrote an article about it here.

The combination of 2D and mobile phones is not really new. Nokia has made available mobile barcode readers since last year. they call it Mobile Codes. But until now its still in beta. You can create your own mobile code here. Or use other services like the one mentioned by blogie in his site.

Here’s are two examples of 2D barcodes:

When you point the barcode reader, you’ll see this text..

I’ll have some tshirts printed with my mobile codes.
