N82 firmware update wish list
Nokia please update the firmware of the N82!
I think there’s some stuff that needs to be fixed and added to the N82.
Here’s my Wish list:
Messaging
- Inserting contacts name and/or numbers in an SMS message
Audio
- Option to adjust audio when recording either audio or video
Camera/Video
- Turn off the red light while shooting a video. I know its used as a sensor for taking pictures and yeah for videos but you should give the user an option to turn it off.
- TURN OFF CAMERA SOUND! Please provide this option! Its so basic and yet its not in the phone. The units he in Asia can’t turn off the camera sounds even if the phone is in silent mode or has turned off the warning tone or even all tones!
- Default option to turn off flash to conserve battery!
- Option to choose a default Scene Mode when taking pictures.
User interface
- Add a TAB view on the menu view
- Separate Video gallery and Photo gallery. Now you can have a use for those redundant buttons. Use the multimedia key above the C (or cancel button) for opening video gallery and the other multimedia gallery on the side of the phone for photos!
Fix Problems/bugs
- My phone sometimes continuously vibrate when i receive an sms message. I’d have to restart it to turn the vibration off.
Music (updated 7/17/08)
- Option to choose which folder to use as source for music files.
This post will be updated from time to time until the latest firmware has been released.

Make gallery loading much, MUCH faster. and automatically recognise folders as albums (so that when photos are organised and transferred back to phone, they can be recognised as albums without needing nokia software)
i m having the same problem as you… continuoous vibration when i get sms… until i have to remove the battery to stop it.
and sometimes the red button doesnt work in closing applications or ending calls..
and i very much love to see the photos n videos separated in the gallery
i’d like to see (at least some of) the following improvements, ordered by importance:
1. email:
possibility to save attachments, even if the filetype is not known by the phone (”retrieving” is possible, but you can’t save a copy to the phone/card memory..so you kind of can download it, but can’t access it anyway
)
2. search:
possibility to mark search results with the #-key, so that e.g. i can use the result of a contacts-search to send an sms to all contacts in the result
3. web browser:
- possibility to mark text on a website
- easier way to open new tabs
- status-bar where you can see where a link points to, when you hover over it with the “mouse” (and maybe be able to only copy the link location instead to directly load it)
- general improvement of speed and stability
4. calendar & contacts:
- link birthdates of contacts with calendar
- possibility to enter all-day events
- possibility to save the thumbnail of a contact to the phone/card memory (instead of only being able to add=replace or remove it)
i think most of them are not specifically N82-related, but i think S60 in general should be improved anyway (some of the features were available even in my old S40 :-O)
cheers
What we definitely need to have updated in the messaging function is:
1) Ability to see date/time for an sms/email directly in the inbox (Like the E series phones - even the N73 used to have this!)
2) Ability to choose to view 1 line sms/emails so that the inbox can show more sms/emails (Like the E series phones as well - and again the N73 used to have this option too!)
Other than the above I think it’s a great phone!
I guess I must be either stupid, or missing out on something, but I’ve had S60 phones for as long as I can remember (6 years or so) and I’ve always been aggravated by the fact that when you get a call from a contact for which you have several phone numbers registered, you never know which one of them they’re calling you from. :S
