50 cents “Text to others” promo

For those who was not able to see, hear or read the SONA yesterday, the President said that she was able to convince the telcos to cut inter-sms or text messaging rates by half. That means from P1.00.. its now down to just 0.50 cents.

Let’s take a closer look at this. Its a “PROMO”. Meaning it’s not a permanent thing yet.

Here’s ’s promo about it.

released an info about their “” promo on major broadsheets yesterday… the day of the SONA.

You need to register to avail of this promo. to do that, type:  TO20 then send to 2827.

Meanwhile, if you are a or Touch Mobile Subscriber, you will also need to register. Text TO<space>20 and send to 2868.

For both networks, you have to maintain 21.00 balance before you register. After registering, P20.00 will be slashed from your load. You then have to maintain P1.00 for you to still be able to avail of the promo. Once you are registered, you will now have 40 sms credits for you to be able to use to send text messages to other networks. And it will be valid for 1 day only (24 hours).

Just a reminder, 1 sms mesage means 150 160 characters.

After you consume all the 40 sms credits, any message sent to other networks after that will be charged with the regular rate of P1.00 per sms.

So to summarize:

  1. You need to register
  2. You need at least P21.00 available load
  3. After successful registration, you will be given 40 sms credits to other network
  4. 0.50 cents will apply if you

Here’s more info for ’s promo (and i think is also applicable to subscribers - but i’m not sure of that)

Multiple registration for promo is allowed. Meaning you can register again and again even if you aven’t consumed your first 40 sms credits from your first registration. If you register again, you will then have another 40 on top of your first registration and the period covered will be extended based on your last registration.

Both promos started last JULY 28, 2008 and will end OCTOBER 22, 2008 unless extended.

Oh, cellular’s sms cut is a permanent offer. Its called Budget Text.

You just need P5.00 and you will then have 10 sms credits ti use for other networks. But, you still have to register to use it. Text  BGT<space>5 and send to 223. Another way is to dial *230*2*17#. This will enable you to purchase Budget Text 5.

So, it looks like only made the reduction in SMS rates a permanent thing. But if you’ll listen or watch the speech of the President yeterday, she was so happy announcing it and like what i said here, it was one of the most applauded part of her speech.

By the way, i assume that registration to these promos are free. I haven’t verified that yet.

Also, you won’t see this promo or details of it in any website of the participating networks. But they were saying that they were not forced to give this promo.

I am for the reduction of the cost of SMS messages. Reduce the cost within the same network and those for other networks as well. But making it free will clog the network. Right ? =p

Thanks to brader Dom for the GMA meNAme pic.

Nagpapabango nanaman po ang Pangulo ng Pilipinas.

:D

[The Group]: Paging Gloria, bilisan mo! Bumaba ka na!
[Ako]: (ah, either 2nd o 3rd floor si Gloria. bumaba daw eh, imposibleng basement o 1st floor)
[The Group]: Gloria! Bumaba ka na! Pakibilisan lang po! Isama mo na si kahirapan at kurapsyon!
[Ako]: Laughs! (saka ko lang nagets!!)

:D

Brader, tingnan mo ‘to:

Yes, Brader Migs, it’s inspired by you!

I don’t want to be skeptical to the President’s good heart.. But hey, our country’s suffering of far greater problems.. and this is not an answer to the social and economic issues our country is facing.. what is this about? a consuelo de bobo to the hungry Filipinos.. Pardon me if i misunderstood something, but are these Promotions of the Networks? The Pres should make it a law or an act to make it permanent hence lessen the poverty-striken masses?!!.. also noted, this is the most applauded part of the SONA., hay!!?

Charmaine,

Each telcos has their own “unlimited” texting promos to be used within their network. I’m not sure between smart and talk n Text pero sa globe kasi, may unlitxt promo for globe to globe and recently they also included touch mobile users in the loop.

people is disappointed of the SONA,

the 50 cent thing is not helping to our people suffering from hunger, high fare/gasoline/rice and other commodities

eh bakit ganon…
why did she announced such thing like she is the one who made it possible?
promo lang pala. i think it wasn’t right
another thing ig that i don’t know why the cost of text message is still one peso even if you are texting another person same as ur network.
if i heard it right the “PROMO” that GMA claims that she made it possible started the same day as the S.O.N.A. was held.
i read from a tabloid that GMA was informed wrong that is why she delivered a wrong news to millions of filipino on the day of her S.O.N.A. pa…
oh well i am pretty sure napahiya talaga ng presidente considering that this was the news that gained the most number of claps.
to cover this i read that the telcos will be extending it till december or discuss if this could be for good na

guys!i think we should give our president a break.instead of pulling her down, let’s just support her with her good plans for the nation.the philippines is poor as it is.you keep on discriminating our current president but you never put in mind the fact that if she comes down from her position, this still can’t solve the nation’s problems.this doesn’t make any difference because as we all can notice in our politics today, it’s very corrupt.whoever will replace her will probably end up like her;being discriminated, being hated, etc.let’s face the fact that no one’s good enough to handle our country.typical filipino, always bringing down fellow filipinos, specially when they see someone’s successful.let’s take crab mentally out of our system.this brings us down.regarding the prices, there are many people complaining that prices are getting higher but take note that it’s not only our country that’s suffering from high-priced commodities right now.i think the whole world is having a fair share of the problem.specially in regards with the fuel.many of you may not like this comment of mine and will still probably blame the president for almost every bad things happening in our nation, but this is what i think.and it really pisses me off every time others always put the blame on the president.so full of pride; not having to put blames on themselves even if they too have a part on it.come to think of it, people, yes us, are bringing us down.not the president.look at those children asking money on the streets, why are they on the streets instead of studying?its either, they’re too lazy to study or their parents would much like them to ask money than to study because they;re too lazy to work for their family.look at those vendors, instead of using our resources, what products are they selling?see?wake up philippines!take a part!don’t just let the president have all the blame!because no matter what she does, if we keep pulling her down, we can never succeed!success starts with us.each of us.it stars from not throwing a single trash on the street.from little things to huge things.let’s work together as a nation.not pulling each other down.
