N85 vs N82
The N85 was recently released by nokia. They said that it resembles that of an N95 but is a stripped version of the N82. Hmmm.. looks like a merger of both nseries phones.
I tried to compare the N82 with the N85 and here’s what i got:
The N85 has a newer Operating system, Symbian OS v9.3 and has the nice S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 which i loved with the N76.

As you will see, the N85 added more mobile network. This to cater for Japan and Africa market. It is also slightly faster than the N82. The latter has more internal memory… but..the N85 is packed with an 8GB Micro SD…. NICE! I’m surprised the the N85 does not have a Video Cable with it. Or maybe its just not added to the list. More bluetooth profiles and java technology features are added to the N85. Flashlite 3.0 is also on the n85 but the recent firmware for the N82 also updated the flashlite version.

The main camera of the N82 has a slightly better resolution and higher focal length and video zoom capabilities. But the N85 is equipped with a Video Stabilization feature.
UPDATE:
The Nokia N82 also has a video stabilization feature. So both phones have it.
With regards to the secondary camera, The n85 has a slighlty better one but from the looks of it, it can’t be used to record or capture videos.
Update:
One big difference between the N82 and the N85 is the Flash.. N82 uses Xenon flash while N85 uses LED…. double LED to be exact. Its not as powerful as Xenon Flash which makes the N82 the better choice for great looking photos specially in dark places.. but this enables the N85 to take videos with “lights on”. You choose… are you more on Vids or photos? I’m a heavy user of the N82 for taking photos.
Thanks to ALEX for pointing out the flash difference.
The N85 can play Flash and windows media video (wmv) files and can produce aac audio recordings, which is better than AMR. It also has a FM transmitter which i first saw on the Nokia N76.
Hopefully the N82 will have the same over the air firmware updating capabilities of the N85. Based from the comparisson, the N85 is a runaway winner when it comes to battery life… increased talk time and stand by time.
The keypads are also different
Lastly, the N85 is smaller than the N82 but it is heavier.
Conclusion:
Most of the features in the N85 that is not in the N82 can be added through a firmware update. Hopefully nokia will do that.
Which is better? I say the N85 is different phone with its own great features and capabilities. Its the price that we have to talk to. Get whichever is lower priced. But what if they’re almost priced equally? Then get the n82! Why? Because i don’t like slider phones! hahahaha

why didn’t you mention the n82’s xenon flash? for many people this can make THE difference!
BOTH phones have gps.

I think they didn’t mention the flash because both cameras have the Xenon flash, so it cancels each other out, like the Video stabilization feature (which i didn’t even know my N82 had).
This is a cool review. I think people can really go either way with these phones, and the N82 will likely be the better value. Still, there are times when I wish I had that FM transmitter in my N82. That could be handy in so many ways for people that spend time in a car.

Just thought I’d point out, in regards to memory cards, the N82’s specifications say 4GB, and whilst the N85 does come with an 8GB card which is an advantage, the N82 can accept 8GB cards(therefore the maximum is *not* 4GB as stated), but it is also supposedly compatible with the soon to be released 16GB microSDHC cards.

Sorry guys, but i couldn’t find anywhere in the net that teh N85 comes with Xenon flash! So, till it comes out N82 in that sense is a lot better, N85 comes with dual led flash as far as I know. Ask me, What phone model do i have? And about the memory capacity, give me a break!If there was a 32G SDCH it would go nice anyways in both of them N82/N85!

hay naku…kung ang n85 does hav d xenon flash…all the best camera features that the n82 has, fast ram, more bulked keypad, and the candybar look…OR that n82 remains to be a candybar, but has the navi wheel, oled screen,fp2 os, dedicated music keys, and at least 2.6″ screen (should fit that candybar size)…haaaayyyy…i would really love to have that…such phones should be named as n85.2 and n82.5 respectively..hehehe!hope i made sense…
btw, tagalog(filipino dialect) are my first words above…

So,which one is the best? N82 or N85?
January 28th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
The N85 looks to have more features, so at a guess I’d say it’s the better one.

Nothing to say n82 is best

N82 is the best. N85 dont have the xenon flash it uses LED flash.
I have two N82 (titanium/white and black edition).
N82 = King of Kings!

hello
in no way the difference in price is somehow balanced from the difference in features.
to buy a N82 is a lot more wise, expecially if you’re not too much interested in the sliding keypad;
most important of all, xeno flash makes it a real (indoor/outdoor) camera.
bye
