Nokia problem: No modem Found

October 7th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Duplii, Laptop, Mobile Brands, Nokia, Verzio, nseries

I was having problems connecting my Duplii yesterday. And so I tried acting like a pc technical support person and changed some of the settings in the Device Hardware Management of my PC. But still the problems were there.

So instead of using the Duplii, i plugged in my N82 and open the One touch access application from the Nokia PC suite. Boom.. “no modem found” OH NOHHHHHH!

I clicked “Settings” but there’s nothing in the drop down menu.. WHAAAAA!

So i tried a lot of things to make it work again…

1. I reverted back all the stuff that i changed in the Device Hardware Management console.

2. I upgraded my Nokia Nseries PC suite (which aasked me to download the Dot net 3 framewrok – 50mb – ouch!)

3. I re-installed the nokia connectivity driver (even if the phone connects with the PC)

4. I reinstalled the Modem Drivers.

… but stilll.. “no modem found!” Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

But don’t worry… there are other ways for you to still be able to use your phone as modem.

Option 1

Create a dial-up network connection. make sure you choose your phone’s modem as seen on the picture below.

Now, try it out by double clicking your newly created dial-up connection.

OPTION 2

Use Joiku Spot. A mobile phone application which turns your S60 3rd edition devices into a wifi hotspot! Nice huh?  Been using this software for quite sometime now and I’m happy with it. The light version is free.

But i still hope Nokia can fix this problem.. Why nokia? Coz when i re-intsalled / updated my Nokia PC suite, it should have repaired the problem. Right?

I experienced the same on my Nokia 6233 before. I had to manually remove PCSuite and all its associated components (about 3 of them) from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the control panel of Windows.

I noticed that this “modem loss” happened when I updated to PCSuite v7.0 and NSU 1.4.56(?). I reverted back to the older version I was using, v6.85, (after removing all associated PCSuite components) and it fixed the problem. =)
