Google Map Maker.. helping you find your way

I’ve been a big fan of since i first saw it.

Until now i’m using it and has been a very helpful tool in providing me information about roads, buildings, and places that i want to go to. What makes it very helpful is the contributions from other users who provide further details about a place, street, or building.

When there’s no around.. I find help using Google . But the thing is.. the information that can be seen is limitted or should i say.. not that detailed.

Well, this is where Maper comes in the Picture. Just recently, Google launched this great web based service to help solve the problem of “details”.

Maker allows you to contribute, share and edit map information for certain regions around the world. Once you understand the basics, you can locate, draw, label, describe and moderate local map features, including:

Using Maker tools, you can visually mark locations and add detailed information about these locations. Once you have submitted content, this information may be edited by other users or moderators. At a later time, this content may be published in Google for others to see and use.

  Details here

Unlike , maker is online. There are moderators to keep things in place.

After creating a street for example, you’ll be prompted with this:

“This edit will need to be moderated by other users. Note that some features may not be displayed on the map immediately”

Also, there’s a feature that prevents double postings. So no overlapping of names or details unlike in where i’ve seen the Ninoy Aquino International Airport marked more than 10 times already!

Currently, Google Map Maker is editable in Specific Countries… 122 countries as of posting time.. that included the Philippines!

As you can see, i’ve started using the service already.. I’m giving details for Davao.. So visit my davao blog: Manilenyo in Davao to see what places I’ve already mapped out!

Try out google Map maker now.. start with your neighborhood and then you’ll bump in to your neighboor also using Maker!

Hmmm.. i wonder how maker would look like on my mobile phone…. I hope they could create a maker for mobile phones!

Yeah! agree that there’s many benefits from google earth.
But my opinion, indirectly we don’t have our privacy anymore.

And it’s depend on what are we looking for.
Anyway… this is a great technology to us!
