Testing the Noka Email service

October 21st, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Mobile Brands, Mobile Review, Nokia, nseries

I downloaded and tested the nokia email service last week. Had an easy time downloading and installing the application using wi-fi connection. First time users needs to register online. An SMS message will be sent to the mobile phone and number you registered.

Its only less than 2MB.

After installation, next is setting up the Nokia Email Service.

Once installed you can now view the inbox and other folders. I like how the inbox is presented and grouped by date.

Go to the settings page to change some default set-up.

Here are some options you can use when composing a new email message:

Ok.. now we move on to some problems i’ve encountered when using the Nokia Email Service.

  • It seems you won’t be able to connect and/set-up an account if you’re in offline mode.

  • One of the biggest problems i have when using the nokia email service is that it automatically turns on my Active stand by screen. I don’t like using active stand by. I want my stand by screen to be clean.

  • I closed  the programand tried connecting again.. but it seems it doesn’t give me an option to connect to the interent either using gprs/3g or wi-fi. So after closing it, i wasn’t able to use it again.

It says sync stopped.. but i wasn’t stopping it from syncronizing. I was trying to look for the settings to manually connect to the internet.. but i can’t find none.

  • Setting up a new mailbox takes long.

Setting up a new account after you’ve already created one takes forever… it says: “testing a new connection”. Maybe this is because it can’t establish a connection.

Suggestions:

  • Option to resize the view/screen in the folders.
  • Automatically get the contacts from your email account (ex. gmail) and not only the email addresses from your phone.
  • I clicked sync.. but it seems  it did not ask to connect to the internet. It  just tried connecting and when it didn’t find a connection it just stopped.
  • Option to manually or automatically connect to the internet.
  • I hope it won’t use too much battery.
Overall, i like the concept and the basic features. It makes nokia phones function like blackberry phones. It’s still in beta, so i’m sure there are still a lot of fixes and enhancement that this application will have.
