Red Mobile is now alive

November 24th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Mobile Brands, Networks

I’ve been seeing ads for Red Mobile on TV and on dailys… Now their website is also live (meaning online). Now we’ll get a chance to know more about Red Mobile.

red mobile is the newest prepaid network in the country today, and is powered by the nation-widest 3G network.  We are committed to delivering the best rates through our lowest per minute call rates and affordable text/mms rates.

Powered by a countrywide 3G network, red mobile is available nationwide.  3G allows us to give you clearer calls, better signals, and even better value for money service.

red mobile is offered to you by Connectivity Unlimited Resource Enterprise, Inc (CURE) – a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines.

Well, we all know that Red Mobile is just a rebrand of the defunct uMobile. Let’s see what Red Mobile has to offer.

First you must have the SIM. Unlike uMobile, Red Mobile is offering its sim for only P39.00. This might be the unused SIMs of uMobile.. That’s why its cheap. =p  It’s cheap so more people will be able to have one and use it.

Your red mobile sim is pre-loaded with P10 load, so you can instantly enjoy 20 minutes worth of calls when you buy a red mobile SIM

This might pose to be a problem to 2G phone holders (meaning their unit is not 3G capable)

No, you won’t be able to use a red mobile SIM with a regular 2G handset.  Since red mobile is powered by 3G, the red mobile SIM is only compatible with a 3G handset and 3G signal

Lets see how that one goes.

The red edge

  • Lowest per minute rate
  • Countrywide 3G coverage
  • Affordable load denominations
  • Load that you can use to your last P0.50

Hmmmm.. let’s check out their rates…

Voice Calls Rates

red mobile to red mobile - P 0.50 / min
red mobile to other networks - P 6.50 / min

Text Rates
red mobile to red mobile - P 0.50 / text
red mobile to other networks - P 1.00 / text

MMS
red mobile to red mobile - P 0.50 / MMS

Video Call
red mobile to red mobile - P 0.50 / min
red mobile to other networks - P 6.50 / min

Mobile Internet
WAP Browsing - P7.50 for every 15 mins

My comments:

  • Its clear that they won’t be giving out free loads anymore.
  • So my initial theory that companies didn’t bite mobile advertising
  • MMS can only be sent and received within the Red Mobile Network
  • WAP Browsing is only P7.50/15 mins… I assume that WAP Browsing is using 3G because uMobile is known to be a 3G carrier.

In that case, their Browsing rates are more expensive (30.00/hour) than Globe’s rates. However, I’ve been an avid fan of Smart and i’ve tried and tested accessing the iternet using Smart 3G. And it has not failed me yet. Unlike Globe’s 5.00 per 15 Mins (20.00 per hour). However, browsing the net using Globe 3G sucks. It’s even  more expensive than the browsing rates of their parent company, Smart, which sums up to P20.00 per hour.

Oh, i checked the website of umobile.. and it’s now down… The original page is not there anymore… Good thing i took some snap shots of their web pages 3 weeks ago.

Another comment… Why are my uMobile invitees receiving Red Mobile SIMS while i haven’t received even a call from Red Mobile? Hmmmm.. strange… Good thing my GF will get her Red Mobile SIM soon. I’ll just use that one first.

nice and interesting notes to red mobile…
I wasn’t really familiar with their Umobile before except that it had ads. I like the voice call rates assuming it’s a red2red call (how redder can you get ?)

hope to see more promising features and actual success stories from subscribers when people start using it.
