The Register reported that some Nokia mobile phone users are seeing their batteries grow…. increases its size… gets that bulge thing. Specifically for the Nokia BP-6M battery.
Nokia has admitted that some customers are seeing BP-6M batteries, as used in the N73 handset, ballooning to several times their original size, and in some cases to such an extent that the phone case won’t close.
The Nokia BP-6M battery is being used by the following units:
Nokia 3250 XpressMusic, Nokia 6151, Nokia 6233, Nokia 6234, Nokia 6280, Nokia 6288, Nokia 9300, Nokia 9300i, Nokia n73, Nokia N73 music edition, Nokia n77, nokia n93
I’ve seen this bulge thing in some batteries. And i think its because of overuse or the battery is too old. I change batteries after 2 years. For me that’s the life span of mobile phone batteries.
“Lithium-ion batteries often gently swell up after a few years, and even unused batteries tend to enlarge after around three years”
I’ve already replaced the batteries of my Nokia 6233 (which my mom is using right now).

Ang saya, sana humahaba rin ang battery life.
hahahha..
honga na ko kuya.. pag nag bloat… dapat nagiging longer ang life kasi nga lumalaki! hahahhah
I was told by someone in the UK that you could actually get a new replacement if your Nokia battery bloats out especially on BP-6M’s & BL-5C’s. – they will honor even it’s already out of it’s warranty. I don’t know if it is applicable here in the Philippines.
=)
I got a replacement BP-6M battery for my wife’s 3250 last December. Previously, I noticed that the plastic back panel of the 3250 was already convexing a bit, and when I opened to investigate, saw the battery got a bit “fatter”. The unit was about 2 years old already.
My 6233′s battery, however, is still the same on I got out of the box. Still alive, kicking and in shape (pun intended) after more than 2 years now. =)
Migs, I went to Nokia MOA but as usual they refuse to change my battery ’cause they don’t have an “OFFICIAL” advisory. My battery is 1yr. 1/2 btw. Then I learn that the original battery’s price is 2,000 Php. and they said that it is “out of stock” hmm… somethings fishy as they may have been pulled out to be replaced by new ones. I’m so disappointed because like what happened to BL-5C, they will just wait for the batteries to melt your phone and recieve a million complaints before they will give an “OFFICIAL” advisory. They should have been called NOKIA CARELESS CENTER. Good thing though, I bought a class-A BP-6M at a store across them which cost me 500 Php. These are the reasons why the so called “fake/pirated” ones will never die.
the anonymous Juan,
You can report that to Nokia… Tell them the name of the Nokia center and the date and time you went there.. In fairness to nokia head office, they act on issue like this promptly (based on experience).
P500.00 for a class A battery? That’s quite expensive.. you could buy one for half the prize at other stores.
Tnx for the info, did you mean nokia head office in makati? Just happened that I need an immediate replacement. Could you recommend some stores? So next time I know where to go. Tnx again.
forgot this
What’s the initial charging time for new batteries? Because some say 4,6,8 or even more.
I suggest you go directly to Nokia Head office.. yeah i think they are in Makati. But dont be surprised if they say that they dont have an available unit right away. Just give them the benefit of the doubt.
But you can also try Brightpoint. Its an accredited nokia service partner.
is the replacment scheme available in india??
darshan,
It should be available too.. but do check with your local nokia service center.

If its still under warranty, then you don’t have to worry. Coz you can have it replaced for being defective.
If its beyond warranty, then i think you have to buy a new one.
