To save eneregy, to reduce waste.. for the enironment…. The next time you buy a brand new Nokia phone… it will be in a smaller box.. and won’t have a charger.
Nokia is looking at shipping products without chargers. The charger is one of the biggest factors when it comes to packaging.
Since reducing the size of product packaging, Nokia has effectively taken 12,000 trucks off the road, used 100 tonnes less paper and saved €470million. These changes don’t happen fast though. There are still a number of products shipping in the older, larger packs, but the change is happening. – source
In fact, they’ve already started this selling phones with “no charger” on the Nokia N79 Eco.
Good things come in small packages
We understand you don’t always need another charger. So, when you buy this Nokia N79 online, it comes without one. All we’re asking is that you keep hold of your old Nokia charger, and use it again. It’s part of a trial to save energy and reduce waste, so it comes in a smaller box too, and for each one we sell we’ll donate £4 to WWF, the global conservation organisation.
Will you buy a phone without any charger? I think this will be applicable if you are a previous Nokia user or a Nokia mobile phone fanatic. But how about if you’re a Motorola user and you saw a nice Nokia phone… now you’ll have a small problem of not having a charger with your new phone. This might be a “turn-off” for non Nokia users.
Also, i suggest that before nokia offers phones without chargers included in the package, they should first make sure that the phones come with high capacity batteries.
Nokia can also do away with the CD installer as most of the time, based from experience, CD-installers that comes with the package are already outdated. And that you’ll most likely go online to download the latest version.
They should also do away with the leaflets and other fliers inside the box.
For me, a Nokia fanatic, its ok if my new Nokia phone won’t come with a charger. I won’t use it anyway. Coz i already bought an All-in-one charger. And most likely, your will be able to use your old Nokia chargers… you’ll just have to buy an adapter.
I just hope that stripping off the unit with its accessories would make the phone CHEAPER! But, it looks like that won’t happen. Because as Nokia removes one accessory, they replace it with another, Just like the what happened to the N79 Eco.. they replaced the charger with covers.:
How often will you replace the cover of your phone? You just need to protect it!
How about you? Is it ok if your next Nokia phone doesn’t come with a charger?

Kuya, where can we buy an all-in-one charger? How much does it cost?
