My take on the mobile world…

Recently, Google launched Google Latitude.

With Google Latitude, you can:

  • See where your friends are and what they are up to
  • Quickly contact them with SMS, IM, or a phone call
  • Control what your location is and who gets to see it

Its an Add-on feature for google maps which you can use both on your PC via your favorite web browser or your mobile phone.

I tried using it on my mobile phone  and here’s what happened.

If you cant find your country on the Google Latitude website, you can enjoy google latitude by downloading the latest Google Maps for mobile.

And so i did download the latest version of Google Maps Mobile on my Nokia N82. Make sure you are able to connect via GPRS/EDGE/3G or Wifi. After the installation, you will be greeted with the Google Latitude splash screen.

Start using Google Latitude by choosing to share your location with your friends.

You’ll need to login to your google account.

After that.. you’ll see this….

Your cute picture plus your name and status. I think the “Om ago” tells your friends your last location and when you were there. Cool huh?

Next thing to do is to add up friends! Why? well.. how will you enjoy google latititude if you wont add friends to locate? hahahah

You can also add your mobile number so that your friends can call or send you a text message if you are nearby!

I find these new feature really cool. However, after making my rounds on the net, i found some people who are looking at the negative side of other people being able to track where you are.

But you as the user, have the power to limit who would be able to track you. If for example, you don’t want your BF/GF to be able to know where you are, then don’t add him/her. Right?

Also, i think it will only be able to show your location when you go “online”. When you connect to google maps / google latitude.

That’s why remember to choose NO when you exit google maps mobile. So that GPS won’t be running in the background.

Have fun!
