After months of tests, Globe now offers WiMax
Globe is now commercially offering their WiMax service. That’s after months of tests mostly in Cavite area as Globe’s Innove has partnered with Intel and some intel employees who are residents of Cavite did the test.
If I remember right, Globe first made public of their WiMax initiative 2 years ago and was supposed to make it commercial by the 4th quarter of 2008.
But Globe is not making it available to everyone, for now. Initialy, it will only be available for certain areas in South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao starting March.
The only problem i’m seeing here is how much bandwith Globe is offering to their consumers. You see, their WiMAX package will only let users surf the web at speeds of up to 512kbps for P795 per month. Yes, you read that right, 512kbps only. Not even 1 mbps. But i’m sure this is just to “test the waters”. Eventually, they’ll be able to provide a high speed internet plan that might be able to topple the current broadband market. But right now, WiMax is really an alternative to fixed internet connection lines.
So, the playing field is now diverse with many options for the consumers. Either you go on DSL, broadband, Wimax, or Broadband over Powe Lines (which will soon hit the market).
I predict that by the end of 2010, most of what is needed to run all of these choices will be in place and it will be a battle on who provides the best service that is..

I’ve been with this from 2nd quarter to July of this year (2009). This is very good connection than dial-up with 56kpbs
. It’s just a waste of money.
