My good friend Blogie is complaining about the “intrusive marketing gimmicks” being done by Smart on smart bro users.
Smart Bro users like him are seeing an “info web page”. But the problem is… its appearing at times when you least expect it.
As Blogie narrates:
[The] Web page [is] automatically loaded by SmartBro. There is no warning, and there is no opting out — the page just loads by itself as you browse the Web. It’s happened to me twice already, and it seems to be a once-a-month nuisance. The first time, I was just reading a friend’s blog, so it wasn’t such a big nuisance. But the following incident, I was editing one of my own blogs: so when I clicked on the save button inside my WordPress admin area, that despicable SmartBro page took over my browser!!
I’m sure everyone will agree that the web page provides useful information. And its a good way of letting your customers be updated of the latest promos, offers, annoouncements, and maybe troubleshooting techniques with regards to using smart bro. However, interrupting your customers on what they are doing is not a good idea.
What if I was in a shopping cart system, purchasing something online? What if I was withdrawing funds from PayPal, and that SmartBro page was loaded after clicking on a transaction button??
I suggest that Smart Bro place this “info portal” when the user first opens the browser. Like make it the homepage of the browser but just when the user first opens it. To make it even better, let the users customize the “info portal”. Let them choose what information they may view. This way, it will be more interesting for the users.
