Send a text or MMS message from your web browser
I found this cool application – actually a browser add-on – where you can send SMS or text messages using your web browser. It’s called Web2Mobile.
Web2Mobile is a Firefox add-on you install on your Firefox web browser. Once installed, it allows you to send text messages and MMS without leaving the browser window. The main benefit here is that you no longer need to pick up your phone or type using a small phone keyboard when sending out text messages – you can do it all in the comfort of your computer!
It was showcased by Globe Telecoms during an event in Manila celebrating the birthday of firefox in the Philippines.
So i tried it out and here’s what happened.
First you need to download the add-on. Download it here.
Next Install it on your firefox browser. If you don’t have one yet, where have you been download it here.
Once you have it on your firefox browser, the next thing you need to do is to register. Where do you do that? Well, Still in your browser. Check out the bottom right part of your browser. You’ll see the Icon of web2mobile. Click it and click the link where its says “Register to Web2Mobile”.
Note that you really need a valid mobile number. Coz that’s where the pin will be sent. So enter your mobile number then click send pin. Enter the PIN that you received in your phone and click validate. Once validated, you can now enter your desired password. When done, click Register.
You’ll get a nice message saying that you’re registered and logged in.
The first window you’ll see after logging in is to add contacts. Just click ADD and follow the instructions.
You’re now ready to send a message!
So why in a browser? Well as the write-up about the add-on says, so that you don’t need to leave the browser and pick up your mobile phone. That’s why the UP team, composed of Olive Ruth Dag and J. Allen Santos, who made this nifty add-on included the following features:
- Select a text from any web page and send it as an SMS – Just highlight any text on the web page you’re looking at, right-click, and then hit Send.
- Send any image, photo or picture from any web page and send it as an SMS – Now, any image on the internet can be sent to your phone. Just right-click on the image and hit Send.
Cool huh?
But take note that this can only send a message and not receive any text message. Plus, you really need to have load on the mobile number that you used to register. The add-on is free.. but sending messages or MMS is not. I’m also not sure if this works with unlimited promos.
This is helpful for me whenever there’s no signal up here in the bundowks. Just to inform my wife that I won’t be able to receive her text message because there’s no signal. This will also be helpful during the campaign period. Or for those Text Clans.
Oh, only globe subscribers can only register.

Checked with Globe CSR about this. Unfortunately for postpaid users you get charged P1 on top of your regular plan regardless of said plan’s free message allotment. “Web app” daw kasi.
Convenient, pero mabigat din P1 every message lalo na kung may libreng SMS ka naman. Sayang lang free SMS mo. Nice try Globe pero I have one word for you: Chikka.

Hello Migs,
Mas madaling gamitin instead of gamit ka ng cam para mag-snap ng picture sa screen mo.
Try using the printscreen button para sa pag-screen capture.
